Our Story

From our family table to Glasgow

Family Cafe

A family restaurant built with love

Family Cafe is an Eritrean and Ethiopian restaurant created to bring the authentic food of our home to Glasgow. Our menu welcomes everyone, with vegan, vegetarian, meat and poultry dishes made in the Habesha tradition.

We cook with the spices, methods and generous spirit that define Eritrean and Ethiopian hospitality. Our food is naturally healthy and wholesome—built on lentils, vegetables and slow-cooked stews—and our injera is made from teff, an ancient grain, which makes many of our dishes naturally gluten-free. If you eat gluten-free, just ask our team and we will happily guide you.

Every plate reflects our family’s passion for food, hospitality and culture. This is more than a business to us; it is a labour of love and our way of sharing Habesha culture with Glasgow.

You will find us in the heart of Glasgow’s East End, on the Gallowgate—just along from the Barras Market and around the corner from the legendary Barrowland Ballroom, with the West End only a short journey away. After exploring the markets, the music halls and the streets of our neighbourhood, come and find us on the Gallowgate.

We also invite you to experience the Eritrean and Ethiopian coffee ceremony: beans roasted, brewed in a jebena and enjoyed slowly together. Come and share our table.
